  • Julian's story

"I have never smoked and I never will. My father used to smoke crap loads a day. Then, on New years eve, of the new millennium at 11:00pm he took his last puff....and he hasn't smoked since! The point is, it aint about being right or being wrong. It aint about being cool or being strong. It's all about being me....and being Māori. And thats why I (and my papa!) are proud to be smoke-free!!!"

Julian Wilcox, Ngapuhi, Ngati Tuwharetoa, Te Arawa. TV presenter, Māori Television, Radio host, Radio Waatea.

  • John Moore

"Don't any of you smoke?"...Tobacco company executive answered... “Are you kidding? We reserve that right for the poor, the young, the black, and the stupid”

"I didn't know it at the time, but I was actually advertising my own death."

John Moore, 67, former Alpine cigarette advertising model, who now has throat cancer. The Guardian, 16 March 2006.
